Its top is a single plank of elm, a stunning piece of timber worn pale and smooth over eighty years or so, with splits opening along the grain. This one has a shake at one end held by two iron staples, an old repair that has clearly done its job.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe legs are round and splayed, braced low down with stretchers, and the elm has been left dry and unsealed.
