Around eighty years old, this antique wash board was hand-carved from solid elm in China's Shandong province and used for scrubbing laundry by hand, long before any machine took over the job. The ribbed surface and worn grey timber tell the whole story, and there is a real pleasure in the simple, useful object it once was. Each one is genuinely old and a little different, with the knocks, splits and patina of decades of daily work. We love them propped as a decorative piece, a quiet nod to a slower way of keeping house.
