Black paint worn back to the pale elm beneath it, with four shaped panels in a faded red outlined by rows of small studs. A century and a half of use has done the wearing, and the black has gone thinnest along the top and the front edges.

Two large drawers sit in two rows, a good amount of storage on a piece this size. The plank top overhangs at both ends and the square legs are braced low down with stretchers.

The red on this one is stunning against the worn black, still strong inside the studded outlines. At 87cm it stands tall for its type, a comfortable height to use standing in a hallway, and at 46cm deep it will not crowd one.

Dust only, with a dry or barely damp cloth. Do not scrub or use cleaning products. The worn areas are part of the piece and will lift if treated.
