Sebastian Antique Elm Console Table
Stripped back to bare elm, with no paint left on it anywhere, so the carved outlines on the drawer fronts show as shadow instead of colour. The timber is dry and pale, with the open grain and old iron marks visible right across the top.
Three drawers: a long one at the top with an iron drop handle hanging from it, and two below with ring pulls. The legs are braced with a stretcher at each side and the top overhangs at both ends.
The top on this one carries several iron cramps let flat into the boards, stitching old splits closed, and they make a handsome record of the repairs it picked up in use. At 85cm high and 46cm deep it works as a hall table in a narrow space.
