This piece came from a heavier door than most, with thick boards, broad iron battens laid across them and big domed studs holding the two together. Laid flat, all of that hardware becomes the pattern of the table top.

The elm has weathered to a pale warm honey and the iron has gone almost black against it, which looks stunning across a top this size. The ends of the boards show old saw marks and splits, left as they are.

The base is welded steel, deliberately thin in section so that the door stays the heavy part of it. At 184cm long it wants a big sofa behind it, and 40cm puts the top just below level with most seat cushions.

Care Instructions

Dust with a dry cloth. Avoid water and household cleaners, which will mark the surface. Keep away from direct heat and strong sunlight, and expect a little movement in very dry rooms.
